For more than 50 years, we have fought beside NYC families from under-resourced communities through a unique combination of services, all focused on protecting education rights and eliminating barriers to success so all students can thrive.
  • Zio's Story

    When Zio, who is classified as autistic, came to AFC, he was 12 years old and had attended four different schools in six years, none of which had provided him with an appropriate education.

  • Angelisa's Story

    At a meeting to develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP)—held six years after Angelisa’s disabilities began impeding her academic progress—AFC successfully advocated for placement at a small, specialized school that could address Angelisa’s anxiety as well as her academic needs.

  • Gloria's Story

    12-year-old Gloria was struggling academically, and was anxious about going to school because she was being bullied. Now that she is in a safe, supportive environment and receiving the services she needs to learn, Gloria is much happier and making progress in school!
