Students at Charter Schools

Charter schools have different laws and accountability structures than NYC community schools, but they do have to uphold certain student and parent rights. This includes upholding the rights of students with disabilities and English Language Learners (ELLs), and following certain discipline policy regulations.

AFC’s Charter Schools Initiative provides advice, legal representation, and trainings for low-income parents of students who are struggling in charter schools, suspended or in danger of expulsion from charter schools, or failing to receive their special education services.
