More than 150,000 NYC Students Experienced Homelessness Last Year
This week, AFC released new data showing that more than 154,000 NYC public school students—nearly 1 in every 7—experienced homelessness last year. This made 2024–25 the tenth consecutive year in which more than 100K students did not have a permanent place to call home.
Advocates for Children of New York has a singular vision: an equitable and inclusive school system where all students receive the education they need to maximize their potential as adults.

With AFC's support, Valerie was placed in school where she has "taken a 180 degree detour": now she loves going to school, her grades have been improving, and she is even starting to read for fun again.
