For more than 50 years, we have fought beside NYC families from under-resourced communities through a unique combination of services, all focused on protecting education rights and eliminating barriers to success so all students can thrive.
  • Mishel's Story

    After Mishel was abruptly sent back to 6th grade, instead of receiving the academic supports she needed to thrive, AFC intervened and helped her persevere and finish middle school on time.

    With support from an advocate, shy Irene was able to open up. It was really empowering,” remembers her AFC advocate. “Because she felt comfortable, she could speak up for herself and her needs and talk about what she’s looking for in her education.”

  • Steven's Story

    AFC successfully fought to reverse the charges associated with Steven's unjust suspension. Today, Steven is a successful student at the prestigious Stuyvesant High School.

Demand Fair Funding for NY Public Schools

For the first time in 17 years, NYS leaders are reexamining the formula used to decide how much education funding, or Foundation Aid, school districts get from the State for each student. Join us in asking Governor Hochul and the NYS Legislature to update the formula to give all schools the funding they need.
