Response to Release of 2024 New York State English Language Arts Test Scores
Kim Sweet, Executive Director of Advocates for Children of New York (AFC), issued the following statement in response to the release of the New York State English Language Arts test scores for New York City students
An overhaul of reading instruction in the NYC public schools has been long overdue, with proficiency rates stuck around 50%, leaving far too many young people without the essential skills they need. As much as we want to see immediate results from NYC Reads, we always knew that successful implementation would take time. We need to take the long view and work for lasting change that prepares all students for successful futures.
