Diploma Coalition Issues Impact Statement on the Elimination of the Local Diploma

The brief urges New York to keep the local diploma in place until alternative pathways are developed.

Coalition Calls for Reform of the “IEP Diploma”

Twenty-six organizations and individuals working with students with disabilities called on the New York State Education Department to change the name of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) diploma to IEP Certificate to clarify for students, parents, and schools that an IEP diploma is a certificate of completion, and not a regular high school diploma. Misuse of the IEP diploma has contributed to students with disabilities leaving school without graduating.
