    The letter urges Minority Leader Jeffries and the New York delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives to protect existing education programs and funding streams and expresses concerns about the severe cuts included in the House Labor–HHS appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2026, including:

    • The roughly $5 billion cut to Title I funding to support students from low-income backgrounds;
    • The elimination of the Title III English Language Acquisition program;
    • The elimination of more than $2 billion in Title II-A grants for teacher training and support;
    • The elimination of the full-service community schools grant program;
    • The elimination of preschool development grants; and
    • A $49 million cut to the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR).
