Maria will join AFC on September 15, 2025.\r\n\r\nMaria comes to AFC with more than two decades of leadership experience championing the legal rights of vulnerable children and families. Most recently she served as Senior Vice President at Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), where she spearheaded legal representation and programming for unaccompanied migrant children, including developing KIND\u2019s social services program in New York City and significantly expanding KIND\u2019s reach and capacity.\r\n\r\nEarlier in her career, Maria served as the Citizenship & Immigration Services Ombudsman at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and as Executive Director of the Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC), the nation's largest network of charitable legal immigration programs. Maria brings a wealth of experience as a legal practitioner, policy expert and advocate, and in leading high performing teams and programs.\r\n\r\nMaria\u2019s profound commitment to protecting children and her ability to balance visionary leadership with responsive, on-the-ground work and direct legal services makes her a natural fit to lead AFC into the future, as we continue to advocate for every child\u2019s right to learn.\r\n
