The report draws on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/infohub.nyced.org\/reports\/government-reports\/local-law-21-of-2024-doe-acs-educational-programming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two years of city data<\/a>\u00a0and testimony from the organization's clients. Together they paint a picture of a vulnerable group of young people contending with service gaps and a lack of support who often return home without a solid school placement.<\/p>\r\n<p data-block-key=\"f8a05\">The report urges the city to ensure every public school has a mental health clinic or a community provider; to fund more specialized programming for students with emotional and behavioral challenges; and to improve the process for students leaving detention by employing more transition specialists and strengthening support at the public schools\u2019 Family Welcome Centers.<\/p>\r\n<p data-block-key=\"1e7gp\">\u201cThe biggest takeaway is that court-involved youth have a level of need that simply isn\u2019t being met,\u201d said Rohini Singh, who directs the advocacy organization\u2019s School Justice Project. \u201cThere should be targeted investments and interventions to ensure they\u2019re getting an appropriate education before they enter detention, while they\u2019re there and when they come home.\u201d<\/p>","":null,"settings":""}}],"relationships":{"":null,"article_type":[83],"topics":[26],"misc_topics":false},"misc":{"search_results":{"":null,"excerpt":"","featured_image":13881}}},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
