Families of children with disabilities born in 2018 will participate in two processes this year: the Kindergarten Admissions process and the Kindergarten IEP process. Learn more at our two-part Turning 5 workshop series, where we’ll discuss how to get special education services for students with disabilities as they move from preschool to kindergarten, applying to kindergarten, parents’ rights, advocacy tips, and how to get help navigating these two processes. .

Understanding the Kindergarten IEP (1.5 hours + Q&A)
Learn about the process of creating the IEP, steps you can take to prepare for the IEP meeting, and programs and service options that are available for children with disabilities in kindergarten. We’ll go over important dates, parents’ rights, advocacy tips, and how to get help during this process.

Understanding the Kindergarten Admissions Process (1 hour + Q&A)
This workshop will cover the process for applying to DOE public schools, including tips for researching schools, ways to apply, understanding how school offers are made, and what to do when you get an offer. We’ll also cover how to apply to charter schools, parents’ rights, advocacy tips, and how to get help.
