In most cases, foster youth are children who\u2019ve been removed from their parents or guardians by a child welfare agency and placed into alternative care, which can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.schools.nyc.gov\/school-life\/special-situations\/students-in-foster-care\" target=\"_blank\">range<\/a>\u00a0from living with a relative to staying in an emergency shelter.<\/p><p>The scarcity of foster-youth-specific data thus far isn\u2019t lost on education equity groups like Advocates for Children of New York.<\/p><p>\u201cIt\u2019s easy to overlook students in foster care because their numbers are relatively small, but given the many challenges they face, they require a greater level of attention and targeted support from school districts,\u201d staff attorney Chantal Hinds said in a statement.\u00a0 <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.the74million.org\/article\/in-nyc-and-beyond-foster-youth-data-still-a-blank-space-in-state-report-cards-four-years-after-federal-education-law-enacted\/\" target=\"_blank\">\uae30\uc0ac \uc77d\uae30<\/a><\/em><\/p>","":null,"settings":[]}}],"relationships":{"":null,"article_type":[83],"topics":[22],"misc_topics":false},"misc":{"search_results":{"":null,"excerpt":"","featured_image":""}}},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
