One of the most fundamental responsibilities of schools is to teach children how to read, yet at Advocates for Children of New York, we regularly work with middle and high school students who are unable to read menus or job applications, much less novels or history textbooks. The scope of the problem is apparent in the city\u2019s test scores: even before the pandemic, only 36% of Black and Hispanic third through eighth grade students, 29% of students who are homeless, and 16% of students with disabilities scored proficiently in reading on the state tests.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p><p>Le maire Eric Adams et le chancelier David Banks ont attir\u00e9 l'attention sur le probl\u00e8me et ont promis de le r\u00e9soudre, annon\u00e7ant des plans pour un d\u00e9pistage universel de la dyslexie, des changements dans les programmes d'\u00e9tudes, de nouveaux programmes et \u00e9coles pour les \u00e9l\u00e8ves dyslexiques, et un Conseil consultatif sur la litt\u00e9ratie qui r\u00e9unira les parties prenantes. Historiquement, les \u00e9coles ont \u00e9t\u00e9 libres d'utiliser le programme d'alphab\u00e9tisation de leur choix ; le Chancelier a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu'au cours de l'ann\u00e9e prochaine, toutes les \u00e9coles seront invit\u00e9es \u00e0 passer \u00e0 un \u201c programme d'alphab\u00e9tisation bas\u00e9 sur la phon\u00e9tique \u201d pour les classes de maternelle \u00e0 la deuxi\u00e8me ann\u00e9e. Bien que la proposition du maire Adams comprenne un nouveau financement pour le d\u00e9pistage de la dyslexie, ce qui importe le plus est la mani\u00e8re dont les r\u00e9sultats du d\u00e9pistage sont utilis\u00e9s. Le besoin est plus urgent que jamais \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re de la pand\u00e9mie, car de nombreux jeunes enfants ont eu du mal \u00e0 ma\u00eetriser des comp\u00e9tences fondamentales essentielles via l'enseignement \u00e0 distance et risquent de prendre de plus en plus de retard alors qu'on s'attend \u00e0 ce qu'ils lisent des textes de plus en plus difficiles dans toutes leurs classes acad\u00e9miques.\u00a0<\/p><p>Am\u00e9liorer l'enseignement de la litt\u00e9ratie pour tous les \u00e9l\u00e8ves, qu'ils aient ou non la dyslexie, ne sera pas facile, mais nous ne pouvons pas nous permettre de reculer devant ce d\u00e9fi.
