Hochul\u2019s proposed school cellphone restrictions would require New York\u2019s students to separate from their devices from \u201cbell to bell,\u201d she said Tuesday \u2014 meaning teens could lose access to their phones during class, lunch and free periods.\r\n\r\nHochul\u2019s school cellphone plan was announced as part of her New York budget proposal containing $37.4 billion in school aid, or $1.7 billion more than this year. That package included changes to the state\u2019s primary school funding formula, Foundation Aid, which if agreed to by the Legislature would tweak how New York sends funding to school districts based on student poverty and economic disadvantage data.\r\n\r\n\u201cWhile updates to the formula itself are sorely needed, the proposals announced today could result in New York City Public Schools receiving less funding from Albany,\u201d compared to other school districts, said Kim Sweet, executive director of Advocates for Children.\r\n\r\nThe city\u2019s schools would still see an overall Foundation Aid increase under Hochul\u2019s proposal.\r\n\r\nBoth Advocates for Children and EdTrust said the governor should have proposed additional funding weights for students who are homeless or in foster care.","":null,"settings":""}}],"relationships":{"":null,"article_type":[83],"topics":false,"misc_topics":[193,184]},"misc":{"search_results":{"":null,"excerpt":"","featured_image":13094}}},"yoast_head":"\nHochul student cell phone ban would require N.Y. students to give up devices from \u2018bell to bell\u2019 -
