Tyler
Meet Tyler, a proud 2026 graduate of Murray S. Truman High School! Tyler and his family came to AFC for help navigating school. Tyler, who is Autistic, also has serious food allergies which required dedicated at-home and in-school support. For years, the DOE had denied the at-home Special Education Teacher Support (SEIT) Services that Tyler needed, which caused an immense financial and emotional burden for the family. With AFC’s help, Tyler’s mother was able to fight for the SEIT at-home services, as well as a one-on-one aide at school, that Tyler needed to thrive. We are so proud of Tyler, and we wish him the best of luck at his new chapter at Bronx Community College!

Zane
Zane came to AFC as a student with complex needs, who had cycled through a long list of schools that could not serve him and thought he might never get his diploma. With help from AFC, Zane was able to attend the Atlas School, a specialized program that was equipped to understand and meet his needs, and achieve his dream of becoming a high school graduate!
Paige
Paige and her family have been working with AFC since she was just five years old! For the last 15 years, AFC has helped Paige and her secure appropriate school placements and fight for necessary special education services year after year. Now, AFC’s post-secondary readiness team will continue to support Paige in her college journey and whatever else comes next.

Tozir
Congratulations to Tozir, the 2026 valedictorian of Gersh Academy! Tozir, a bright and fiercely passionate young man, has been working with AFC since 2021 to secure placement at school that could meet his learning needs. For many years, Tozir has been laser-focused on pursuing a computer science degree. His AFC advocate will continue to work with him to achieve that dream and make sure he has the postsecondary supports he needs to thrive!
