AMNY | A report released this year by Advocates for Children found that 63% of children living in New York City shelters are chronically absent from school, and one in five are forced to switch schools in the middle of the year. Only one-third are reading at grade level. For children already facing instability, every additional month in shelter creates more disruption, more trauma, and fewer opportunities to succeed.
